Message: Joan and family,
On behalf of the staff, past and present, at Quinte Detention Centre, I send our sincere sympathies. Carl is fondly remembered for his smile, chuckle and his love for golf. At the annual QDC tournament, his name was etched into the winning plaque numerous times. Following his retirement, he enjoyed sharing old stories at the annual festive lunch and the staff BBQ's. We will treasure the memories.
Sincerely,

Carol French

Message: To Marty Stacey and his family - I work with Marty at Suunto. I live in New Hampshire with my wife, and 3 adult sons, and I am Poppa to 7 grandchildren. I share these things in common with Carl, including my love and devotion for my family. Unlike Carl, however, I have never been a Champion of my golf course, and I guarantee that I couldn't play softball with a broken arm - I enjoyed those stories! I have shared with Marty that I too had a great Father, and in my opinion the greatest Dad ever. He took my brother and I fishing and hunting in Northern Maine as soon as we could walk. He passed in 1998 and I still think of him at least once every day. He told me when I was a teenager that he thought of his Dad at least once every day - his Father was born and raised in New Brunswick, and fought in WW1 in the 5th Canadian Mounted Rifles in the trenches of France and Belgium. My Father taught me that as long as I had those memories of a good and loving Dad, I was very blessed compared to many. So I'll pass that on to you. Remember your Dad as a good and loving man, you were blessed to have him in your lives.

Message: Carl had a competitive nature; a self belief to be admired; and an infectious will to win - all of which transcended time or age. I feel fortunate to have spent time on the ice, baseball diamond and especially the golf course with Carl, and although being almost 40 years younger, the camaraderie was always that of a fellow athlete and competitor that was just to be at his best. Carl teamed with a few of us for a tournament of few years ago, and even when the tournament win was clearly out of reach and the rest of our teams hopes and spirits beat...Carl made a 15 foot breaking putt -- which really was insignificant at that point as we were too far behind -- but the intensity and excitement Carl put into the fist pump and walk to the hole to pick that ball out of the cup will remain a moment etched in time, easily the highlight of our entire day. Believe in yourself, never give up, and always give your best - things I'll remember from Carl's example. All the best to the family.
