Ronald Ray Mace,
born August 4th 1938- April 9th 2023-
It is with mixed emotion, we announce that on Easter Sunday, Ron went to be with his Lord.
After a brief illness Ron passed at PECMH. He was surrounded by his beloved wife of 65 years, Ruth (MacDonald), his devoted daughter Debbie Howes (Ian Sinclair) and his grandchildren; Jason Howes (Kristy), Jessie Harrington (Dustin), Daniel Howes (Kristina),
Dylan Howes (Maddie). Predeceased by his parents, Olive (Break) and Russell Mace, his sister Carol Beno (Ken),
his brother-in-law Jerry and Roddy MacDonald, his daughter Wendy and son in law Bill Howes. He leaves to mourn and remember him, his sister Marilyn Korhonen (Bob) and sister-in-law Sandy Miles (Reid), his cherished great grandchildren; Eden, Grady and Savannah Howes, William, Macie and Benjamin Howes, Tyler and Ellie Harrington, Finn Howes. Ron will also be fondly remembered by many
nieces and nephews and his life-long friend Paul Bunn (Janice).
Ron grew up in the cottage country of Burleigh Falls and spent his summers working at “Mace’s Cottages” preparing fishing boats
and repairing cottages. After completing his high school years at Bob Jones University in South Carolina, Ron joined the RCAF and loved every minute of the next ten years- training for and flying the F-86 Sabre jet. He spent his “Glory Days” in Canada, France and Sardinia. Following his Air Force days, Ron returned to school, receiving his Honour’s BSC.
He was part of the first graduating class at Trent University in 1967.
After graduation, Ron taught math at Adam Scott Collegiate for 27 years, with a year exchange in Perth, Australia.
Ron genuinely cared for his students and many of them maintained contact with him in his retirement years.
First and foremost on Ron’s agenda was his Faith and his Family. He served on many committees and took on leadership roles in each church that he attended. His role as a father, grandfather and great grandfather gave him great joy and he was proud of each child.
He embraced every opportunity to interact and play with them, the children will have wonderful memories of “Grampy” to cherish.
A Celebration of Life for Ron will be held at
Emmanuel Baptist Church, 240 Main St., in Bloomfield on April 24th at 1:00pm.
The Family will welcome guests at a reception following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Teen Challenge (teen challenge.ca) or a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated.
