LUCY DOREEN SUMMERS
1937 – 2022
Unexpectedly taken from us, Saturday, January 8th, 2022
at her home in Consecon, Ontario,
Lucy Summers
in her 84th year.
The daughter of the late Walter (Nib) Keller and Grace Thompson of Belleville.
Sister to Joyce (Doug) Hill of Wellington, John (Isabelle) Keller of Consecon, and predeceased by siblings
Ealerey Keller of Consecon, Irvine Keller of Hamilton, Ina Keller of Belleville and Bill Keller.
Lucy was the wife of the late Robert Bruce Summers, and was preceded in death by her son David Bruce Summers and daughter in law Connie Sims Summers. Lucy is survived by sons Robert William (Rose) Summers and Daniel Robert (Christine) Summers and daughter in law Susan Summers. Wonderful grandmother to Megan, Courtney, Kim, Angela, April, Justin, Alyssa, Taylor and Ethan as well as a great grandmother to Matt, Alana and Josh and known as “GG” to Cosima and River.
Lucy was born in Belleville and even though she left the area after marrying Robert (Bob)Summers, they travelled around to many areas in Canada and returned later in life to resettle back into the Quinte region. An avid bargain hunter and antique collector Lucy loved to visit flea markets, yard sales and bargain shops looking for and finding many treasures over the years. At one point opening a Bargain shop running it for two years and selling it successfully. Lucy loved to collect dolls and had a very extensive collection of dolls over the years.
She loved to play Bingo and enjoyed the odd trip to the casino to test her luck. Most of all Lucy loved her family and anyone that knew her most likely heard stories about her sons, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lucy was always on the go and earned the name “the Road Runner” from friends and neighbors who enjoyed watching her constantly out and about even as her years advanced.
In her younger years Lucy loved the cottage that they purchased in the Peterborough area in 1961. Lucy and Bob built the cottage over a period of 19 years into a beautiful summer home which was their pride and joy. When Bob decided a few years later that he wanted to farm, Lucy started a new phase in life, which involved cows, pigs and chickens. Without missing a step Lucy gave up the cottage she loved in favor of a 100-year-old farm house and became a farmer’s wife. Years later when Cancer took Bob from her in the middle of building their dream home, Lucy completed the house Bob had worked so hard to give her and managed the funds Bob left her for the next 20 years. She was inspirational, courageous, and tough when she needed to be, yet gentle at heart.
Her loss will be greatly felt in this close family.
As per Lucy’s wishes cremation has taken place.
The family will provide a memorial service in the Summer of 2022
as restrictions are reduced and gatherings of larger groups are permitted.
