Jill Hancock
(neé Patricia Jill Wicken)
November 28, 1949 - March 1, 2020
Jill Hancock passed away peacefully at home on Sunday March 1, 2020, surrounded by loved ones.
She is survived and fondly remembered by husband John Hancock, children Lindsay and Lee Hancock, daughter-in-law Nikki Philbrook, granddaughter Adaline “Della” Hancock, sister Jodie Esch (Terry), brother Jim Wicken (Nancy),
and numerous nieces and nephews and their children.
Jill was an active member of the Prince Edward County community, involved in the Prince Edward County Cattlemen’s Association
fundraisers and steer shows, foodbank cooking, Wellington School Breakfast Club, and “The Great Book Club”.
In previous years she operated “Knits and Knots” (a yarn/needlecraft store in Picton), and worked for the Heart and Stroke Big Bike fundraiser, Curves in Picton, and the Albert College Guild Shop in Belleville.
She was also an invaluable support for John’s veterinary practice, animal nutrition company, and farming adventures.
Jill is lovingly remembered as the rock for her family members and friends. It is difficult to truly capture the essence of Jill on paper;
to know her was to love her. We all appreciated her joyful positivity, wry sense of humour, quiet generosity, trustworthy compassion, unflappable sensibility, and seemingly endless willingness to provide support and assistance when needed. We will forever smile, remembering her love of trails, motorcycles, smooth-handling cars, animals (especially dogs and horses), the ocean and lighthouses, colourful gardens, folk festivals and live music, travel, and road trips with loved ones.
Honouring Jill’s wishes, a funeral will not be held, and cremation has taken place.
A memorial fundraising dinner will be held May 2, 2020 at the Highline Hall in Wellington, in support of the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital “Back the Build” campaign, and the LoveSong seniors housing project in Bloomfield. The family would like to extend our gratitude to Dr Sarah Leblanc, Dr Elizabeth Christie, and all the homecare nurses and staff who cared for Jill these last few weeks. We would also like to thank everyone who sent us texts, emails, and letters for Jill. She read or heard every one of them, and we all treasured your fond memories and words of appreciation.
