Otsuka, Wesley

It is with profound sadness that the family of
Wesley (“Wes”) Hideki Otsuka
announce his peaceful passing on Friday, May 12th
at the age of 82 years.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 52 years, Angela; his children Terry, Brad (Natasha), and Kyle (Jenny); his grandchildren, Scott, Makenna, and Georgia; his great-grandchildren, Leo and Jake; his sister Lillian and his brothers Randy and Barry.
Wes is preceded in death by his parents Yuwao and Kazue Otsuka and his sister Toshiko Kawaii (Harry).

Wes was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. He and his family moved to the small town of Webb, Saskatchewan in 1942,
where he grew up. Wes then moved to Hamilton in 1961. Wes was a professional picture framer by trade, working alongside his wife Angela for almost 40 years at their craft store, Angela’s Craft Centre in Dundas, ON. The store evolved many times over the years, providing the community a place which encouraged their creativity, and with Wes’ framing, helped them to accentuate
and display their handiwork.

He was passionate about music. Wes loved to play the trumpet and for years was an integral member in the Hamilton Fire Fighters’ Drum and Bugle Core, The Dundas Silver Swing Band, and The George Arnone Band. His extensive knowledge of music
led him ultimately into conducting.

A quiet, soft-spoken man, he could always be counted on for a witty, funny remark and enjoyed practical jokes.
He loved curling, the casino, and was a dedicated fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Hamilton Tiger Cats.
But most of all, he loved his wife Angela and his family beyond measure.

 

At Wes’ request, no service will be held. Because of his love of music,
charitable memorial donations may be made in Wes’s name to benefit future young trumpet players with the
Burlington Teen Tour Band at www.teentourband.org
