Lockwood, Sharon

On Tuesday, April 18th at 12:15pm, we said our final goodbye to our incredible and most stoic Mom,
Sharon Elizabeth Lockwood (nee Stapley).
A beautiful & caring Wife to David Lockwood.

Sharon passed away peacefully, on her chosen date, surrounded by the love of her family at Hospice Prince Edward.

Born in Napanee, Ontario on October 22nd, 1942, to Eleanor and James Stapley, loving sister to Wes Stapley.
Her stomping grounds remained in Napanee until she graduated from high school and headed  to Teacher’s College in Peterborough, ON.
While playing volleyball in Peterborough with her friends, David struck up a conversation and shortly after, their adventurous love story began.  They married in Hawley (South of Napanee), August 22nd, 1964, and their honeymoon consisted of New York City,
the World’s Fair, Florida and 5 Major League Baseball games!

Embracing family life, she created a magnificent home for their 4 children and David, in Prince Edward County (Mark, Shane, Jodi and Shannon).   There was nothing she couldn’t do.  She was a teacher, played softball, loved to ski both downhill and X-Country, was an avid golfer winning many local tournaments in the area.  She did a 10K run, took belly dancing classes, yoga & biked.  She did it all!

Her greatest passion was that of her many friends and wonderful cousins.  She couldn’t have enough friends, and even if she wasn’t looking, people still found her!   She was fun, outgoing, caring, loyal and always ready to do something exciting.

Sharon and David travelled the World!  Together, and with friends, they visited 62 countries.
Cherished memories for all that were included in their shenanigans.

Blessed with 10 amazing grandchildren – Brennen & Madison (Shane & Elaine nee Sheriff), Neve, Mackenzie, Hannah (Mark & Tonya), Maxwell (Mark & Adrienne David), Benjamin & Abigail (Jodi & Kirby Childerhose)
and Grace & Hartley (Shannon Lockwood & Ryan Wallach).  We are a handful to say the least.

Sharon had an open-door policy and anyone was welcome.
New people became friends, and friends became family….and we will continue to live with her philosophy.

As we watched Dad walk in to see Mom on her chosen date.  He was dressed impeccably, in a fancy black blazer with bright paisley colours throughout.  He looked at her like she was a blushing bride and said “There’s my favourite girl”.

Her presence will always be with us and  those who knew her.

A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, May 16th, 1-4pm
at the Wellington and District Community Centre.  111 Belleville St., Wellington, ON.
In honour of Sharon, we ask you to wear bright colours and beautiful hats!
If anyone would like to speak, read a poem or tell a joke, please contact us.
