Hastie, Marilyn

97 years – A life well Lived

Marilyn Eda Hastie (Thwaites) (nee Cumming),
born in Northumberland England, September 26, 1925
passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 8, 2022, at the Trent Valley Lodge, Trenton, Ontario.
Marilyn came to Canada at the age of 3, daughter of her British schoolteacher mother
Lilian Cumming and her Scottish naval officer father Malcolm Cumming.

Loving wife to Ronald Hastie (2013), Mother to Raymond Thwaites (1979),
she is survived by her son Harold (Hal) Thwaites, and her son-in-law Tien (James) Wong
and her niece and grand nieces in British Columbia.

Marilyn moved to Wellington on the Lake (WOTL) in 1993 after retiring from her dedicated
50 year nursing career in Montreal, Vancouver, Halifax and Ottawa. She was always “first a nurse”.
Active, and always on the go playing tennis, golf and creating her amazing arts and crafts,
Marilyn filled her life with friends, voluntary activities where she enjoyed organizing social events,
bringing people together giving line dancing and tap dancing classes, as well as being a most generous hostess
especially at her Christmas open house party. Marilyn was a good-hearted person, held high values for herself and others,
was a past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and a very strong lady to the very end.
She will be deeply missed by those she leaves behind.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Marilyn’s memory. Details will be forthcoming in 2023.
In lieu of flowers, donations can please be made to The Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation.
She now finally rests with her husband Ron & most loved schnauzer Willie.
Interment will be in the spring 2023 at Wellington Cemetery.
