Walsh, Mary Ursula

Mary Ursula Walsh

Born on a farm near Westwood, Ontario, on December 22, 1936,
Ursula passed away on June 20, 2021, in Nanaimo, B.C.
In between, she was a teacher, a mother and a contrarian.

She loved her children Rick Conroy (Kathleen), Patti Grossman (Michael) and Steve Conroy (Laurie).
She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren Grace, Ah-Mei, John and Lily Conroy; Robin Wood,
Oceanne Langstrough, Sam Grossman and Jasmine Albrecht; as well as Patrick, Heather, Sarah and Anna Grace Conroy.
Her great grandchildren, too, Charley, Jasper, Arlo, Sawyer and Finlay.

She taught elementary school from the age of 17, including stints at St. Andrew’s West and Iona Academy, among others, in and around Cornwall. She was married to Bob Conroy for about 30 years, and together they raised their family at Harrison’s Corners.
While working full-time, Ursula earned a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) from the University of Ottawa.

Sadly her final years saw the erosion of her memories and self-awareness.
Her daughter Patti Grossman cared for and watched over her over these last few years in Slave Lake, AB and later in Nanaimo, B.C.

Thank you to the caregivers at Nanaimo Memory Centre.

A funeral mass was held at St. Francis de Sales in Cornwall.
She will be interred later in July at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Hastings, Ontario.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
