Orchard, Robert

Robert Ernest Orchard 

With great sadness the family of Robert Ernest Orchard
announces his passing in the early hours of April 30th, 2021, at the age of 80 years.

Born June 1940 in the Kingdom of Kippen, Scotland. Robert was always very proud of his Scottish heritage.
Son of the late  Ernest Albert (Bert) and Marjorie (Marg, nee Grange) He had no siblings.
In his teenage years he moved to Stroud, Gloucestershire where he met his high school sweetheart and married his loving wife Jillian Orchard (nee Long) enjoying 57 years together. Raising their three children Andrew (Mia), Michael (Launa) and Jackie (Richard).  Robert, Dad, Papa was loved by his immediate family which grew to 6 Grandchildren Jordan, Taya (Dylan),  Kylie (Kyle) Colin, Kristan (William), Kayla (Colten) and 4 Step Grandchildren Mike, Cody, Sam, Brittany (Denis) and currently extended to 7 Great Grandchildren.

Robert was a successful Professional Engineer which brought his family to Canada. At first to Lennoxville, Quebec followed by a few years in Moncton New Brunswick then the majority of his working years in Ottawa, finally his career concluded in Burlington, Ontario.

Robert and Jill enjoyed twenty plus years in retirement living, enjoying life in both Florida and Wellington, Ontario. 
Robert had an intense passion supporting the Glasgow Rangers Football Club and cranking the music of Queen/Rolling Stones.
His other passions were being an active Snowbird (Clearwater, past President of the Canadian Club) enjoying watching rugby, Blue Jays Spring Camp and playing and watching curling, lawn bowling, golfing (even managed to worm burn his own hole in one).
Robert was a storyteller and loved discussing past military battles, especially the Civil War.
He loved traveling with Jill, particularly cruises and day excursions. 

Robert had the calmest demeanor, always smiling and happy go lucky. 
He was a fantastic husband, father, grandfather, coach and friend. He will never be forgotten.

At his wishes there will be no visitation or funeral.
A private Celebration of his life will be held by his family at a later date where he expects
us to be laughing telling stories and sampling various scotches.

The Orchard family wishes to thank all those who helped and assisted Robert with his Dementia and Cardiac care challenges:
- Picton Hospital staff, home support/VON, and the area emergency services.
