Aurèle Gilles Roussel,
89, of Wellington, ON
passed away suddenly on Sunday, January 12, 2025,
at the Picton Hospital.
Gilles was born on July 14, 1935, in Verner, ON. Son of Isidore Roussel and Berthe Robert.
Gilles was living at the McFarland Long Term Nursing Home for the past two years.
He was very well taken care of and loved by the staff.
Gilles worked as a Fuel Analyst for General Motors for 32 years. He was a very kind, gentle and loving husband.
He was loved by all, near and far. He will always be remembered for his beautiful infectious smile and laughter.
He had a good soul and a generous spirit that will be etched into our memories forever.
He had a passion for sports which he started at the age of 40 by lifting weights. He then embarked on doing many other sports
such as downhill skiing, squash, tennis, golf and cycling, etc. He had a yearly challenge and goal to himself to ride the number of kilometers to the day of his birthday. His determination to do this was very outstanding! His last ride was when he turned 85
and rode 85 kms in 4½ hours! He played a lot of tennis which then progressed to the new Pickle Ball Mania at the age of 86.
Gilles and Gisèle played a lot of golf for many years in Whitby, Wellington and in Winter Haven in Florida for over 20 years.
He actually did a hole in one in Florida on the 5th hole in 2007! He was so proud of that!
Gilles also was a blood donor for many years totaling 250 blood donations.
He also gave a lot to charities. He even paid the education for a Vietnamese Priest.
He is survived by his loving wife Gisèle Gionet, his brother Michel (Liz), five daughters and three step children.
He will also be remembered by many sister and brother in-laws, nieces, nephews and many friends.
Five daughters: Denise (Mark Fitzpatrick), Pauline (Paul Correia), Lorraine (Michael Beckershoff), Diane and Monique (Charlie Grant). Three stepchildren: Lucie (Conrad Brideau), Jocelyne (Mark Vince) and Serge (Melissa Read).
Eighteen grand-children and four great grand-children. Predeceased by his brother George (Yvonne).
A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, January 20th at 11:00 a.m.
at St. Gregory the Great Church, Picton. Rev. Father Remigius Okonkwo officiating.
Friends may visit with the family at the church from 10:00 until time of service.
