Dear Diane,
JoAnn and I arrived back in the County today and picked up the Wellington Times, only to read David's obituary. Please accept our sincerest condolences for your loss. Although we never had the good fortune to meet David, from your many comments about him and your devotion to him and the wonderful picture of him in the Times, he must have been an exceptionally warm, intelligent and caring man. Given the chronic nature of his illness and the slow deterioration that you witnessed over many months, at some level his passing must also be some kind of relief for you. I remember our quiet conversation at the lovely dinner we had at your home (which now seems a lifetime ago) in which you talked about going daily to see him and how painful it was not to be able to go see him when a bacterial infection broke out. I listened with great admiration, not just because you would go be with him daily but because it spoke of the love between the two of you.
It must be exceptionally hard at this time, with this bloody pandemic and all the restrictions it has placed on our lives. This is the time for you to be surrounded by family and friends, reminiscing about your times with David and your lives together.
I hope we can see you very soon but in the meantime, take care and our thoughts and affection are with you.
Alan and JoAnn
