To Cathy's children, I am so sorry for your loss. I curled with your mother in Picton. She always spoke so fondly of Harold. She was so much fun, both on & off the ice. She, Raylene, & Grace invited me to be the 4th member of their team in a ladies spiel in Kingston. When we were in the locker room they told me, usually lead with Grace skipping, that I was going to skip. I protested vehemently. Your mom played 2nd. I was so nervous we did poorly in the 1st 2 ends. So your mom stood beside me when1 I was in the hack, with a constant stream of encouraging comments, I didn't miss a shot from then on. The other team, all great curlers, were in shock as we proceeded to win the game. I will never forget that day or the lesson she taught me about the power of encouragement. |
