I was a staff member at PECI when Josh was a student there. I worked directly with the students for their attendance, concerns with school life or just a person to be on their side when having difficulties with their teachers. Josh was always a sweetheart to work with no matter what was going on in his life. He kept his life pretty close to himself and never deliberately sought out anyone to help him. As a Mother myself, I made it my job to be very in tune with the students and treat them as if they were my own children, complete with expectations, guidance and love. When Josh was not having a great day, he wore it in a way only a Mom would recognize. I would offer a kind word, and an offer of being there if he needed someone to talk to. Occasionally, he would talk to me for assistance with a school issue and we would work through it. It was always obvious that Josh had a heart of gold. I never once saw him act unkindly to any other student nor disrespect staff. He was always gentle in his mannerisms and if he could assist someone, he never hesitated. He endeared himself to me even more when Lucas started school. He always made time to check in with Lucas in the cafeteria to make sure he ate, was having a good day and just be a big brother. It was even better to see the big smile on Lucas's face when he spotted Josh coming towards him. The love was tremendous between them. Certain students during my 10 years at the school will always be remembered by me. Josh was one of them. If I ran into one of his friends, I always asked about him. The pain I feel is nothing compared to yours but I do want you to know he was dearly loved and I very much enjoyed getting to know him and watching him grow into the adult he became. For this I feel very blessed. Please accept my sympathies at this very difficult time. |
