Frenette, Normand

NORMAND FRENETTE
November 27, 1936 - July 30, 2020

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of
NORMAND FRENETTE
announce his passing at the age of 83.
Complications from surgery lead to his death at Kingston Health Sciences Center,
surrounded by his family.

Mourning him deeply are his wife of 49 years, Denise (nee Paquette),
and his daughters Nicole (Louis), Chantal (Kyle), and Marie-Josée (Gilles).
His « three Graces » will miss his love, humour, wise counsel, and far-reaching conversations.
As Grand-Papa, he delighted in the laughing relationship he had with Sébastien, Émilie, Benjamin and Maxime.

His sister Pauline (William) Borron has lost a much-loved older brother.
He is mourned by her husband Bill, with whom he shared a friendship of 78 years, and by LouAnne, Randy, Janet and Paul.

Normand touched many lives and many minds throughout his life. He was the mentor and much-admired elder statesman of two close-knit families, those of his cousins in Quebec and of his extended family of in-laws. He was an educator, an academic, a researcher and a lifelong learner. (M.Theol., M.A., M.Ed., PhD.)He was intellectually curious to his last day, researching a broad swath of topics, whether sociological thought, geopolitics, genealogy, formal menswear or how to prepare the perfect martini. He was a gentle man and a gentleman.

Normand left an indelible mark on the Franco-Ontarian community. He co-authored landmark studies of the Franco-Ontarian education system that inspired further studies and influenced strategic directions at both ministerial and school board levels. He received many awards, published books and many refereed articles, was a valued keynote speaker. Throughout, Normand especially valued his calling as teacher, professor, and graduate research advisor.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and gratitude to Dr Norma Charrière as well as to the staff at
the Picton, Belleville and Kingston Hospitals and, more specifically, the hospital staff in the ICU units for their compassion and care.

We regret to advise that due to the restrictions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic,
a small invitation-only ceremony will take place on Thursday August 13th from 1:15 - 3:30 p.m.
