In memory of: Brian McGowan
Message: Heartfelt condolences to Brian's family and friends. I only recently heard the sad news of Brian's passing. The obituary is very well written; it captures an image of the Brian McGowan so many of us remember. A man of integrity and boundless energy. Some of my earliest memories of Brian date back to when he and his friend John Litster, both in their early 20's, drove a VW Beetle all the way to Texas. We would occasionally receive postcards from them at various points in their journey, many of them hilariously written by Brian. My favourite sign-off was "Yours in dubious ubiquity".

Message: Dear Lyn and Family,

Very saddened to learn of the news of Brian's passing. Brain was a wonderful person and a charismatic leader devoted to the cause of education and access. As part of the Teach In Ontario project team I had the pleasure of interacting with him and will always remember him for his commitment and his willingness to embrace change and champion for fairness and equity. A dynamic leader, transparent, straightforward and wise. My heartfelt condolences and strength to the family at this most difficult time. Peace!

Message: To spend time with Brian McGowan was to experience transformative moments. I was privileged to serve on the Rotary Board with Brian and watch with awe as he respectfully dealt with a wide-range of personalities, ideas and issues. As President of Rotary he also led by example – stepping up to EVERYTHING while making it fun - whether creating a charitable foundation, building floats or riding on them with him, setting up or tearing down events, discussing ideas at bottle depot or sitting next to him at breakfast or a dinner event and being totally entertained by his stories. His enthusiasm inspired me to want to do what he did: go to Rome, hold a 2 km dinner, buy local, try new things, consider another point of view. I’m forever grateful for all the fun times, the meaningful talks, the positive changes Brian brought to our community and our Club and the life lessons I learned from him.
